Aluminium or uPVC Windows for your home?

This is one of the great debates currently raging in the window industry.

Both have their pros and cons.

uPVC windows are considerably cheaper than aluminium and can offer better thermal u-Values than aluminium.  However in today’s modern market where many homeowners desire large windows, uPVC has its limitations.  This is especially important for windows which must open, particularly when triple glazing is required.  Wood alternative uPVC windows such as Residence 9 can also provide a softer, warmer feel to the home than aluminium windows can.

Aluminium windows have come a long way in the last few years.  The development of highly efficient thermal breaks within the aluminium framing has dramatically boosted the thermal insulation properties of premium brands such as Origin and Reynaers.  These can now offer windows with u-Values as low as 0.8.  One major advantage of aluminium is that the superior strength of the frame allows much finer frames allowing maximum amount of light into the home and also allows larger windows.
